Is taking care of your home becoming overwhelming, but the idea of moving is even worse? There are so many options when it comes to downsizing and senior living that it is hard to make the right decision.
What are my options?
When deciding to sell your home, you have many options on where to go depending on your preference and the level of care needed. If you are just tired of doing yard work and walking up and down stairs, but would still like to own your own home, you might want to purchase a condo or a single-level townhome. These can be in senior-only communities, but they certainly don’t have to be.
If you’re looking for a more senior oriented community or a higher level of care, you may consider moving to a senior apartment or a co-op. Cooperatively owned senior housing is similar to owning a condo, but instead of owning your unit, each member is shareholder of the entire community.
Senior apartments have a variety of care options. They range from independent living, to assisted living and memory care. Assisted living apartments or condos provide medical and nursing care. Most have packages including shopping, meal prep, bathing, medications, and transportation. Independent living communities don’t provide as many support options, but often have meal plans or help with medication.
